Effective medium theory of permeation through ideal polymer networks
نویسنده
چکیده
The diffusion process through an ideal polymer network is studied by applying the effective medium theory (EMT) to a lattice-gas model. Polymers are modeled by random walks on the lattice bonds, across which molecules can hop with a certain probability. The steady state current of the system is calculated using the EMT and the results are compared to the simulations. Effective medium theory of permeation through ideal polymer networks 2

Simulation studies of permeation through two-dimensional ideal polymer networks
We study the diffusion process through an ideal polymer network, using numerical methods. Polymers are modeled by random walks on the bonds of a twodimensional square lattice. Molecules occupy the lattice cells and may jump to the nearest-neighbor cells, with probability determined by the occupation of the bond separating the two cells. Subjected to a concentration gradient across the system, a...
متن کاملEffective medium theory of semiflexible filamentous networks.
We develop an effective medium approach to the mechanics of disordered, semiflexible polymer networks and study the response of such networks to uniform and nonuniform strain. We identify distinct elastic regimes in which the contributions of either filament bending or stretching to the macroscopic modulus vanish. We also show that our effective medium theory predicts a crossover between affine...
متن کاملA New Resistance Model for Interpretation of Gas Permeation Data of Composite and Asymmetric Membranes
In this work a new resistance model has been presented based on that of Henis-Tripodi which can be used for interpretation of gas permeation data in composite and asymmetric membranes. In contrast to the previous works, in this model the fraction of the support layer surface that includes the pores filled with coating material has been taken into account. The influences of the filled pores on s...
متن کاملSynthesis and characterization of optically active polyester thin-film bionanocomposite membrane achieved by functionalized cellulose /silica for gas permeation
Optically active bionanocomposite membranes composed of polyester(PE) and cellulose /silica bionanocomposite (BNCs) are a novel method to enhance gas separation performance. Commercially available silica nanoparticles were modified with biodegradable nanocellulose through ultrasonic irradiation technique. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses showed that the cellulose/silica composite...
متن کامل3 Elasticity of semiflexible polymer networks with flexible cross - links
Recent experiments have demonstrated that the nonlinear elasticity of in vitro networks of the biopolymer actin is dramatically altered in the presence of a flexible cross-linker such as the cytoskeletal protein filamin. The basic principles governing the mechanical properties of such networks, however, remain poorly understood. Here we describe an effective medium theory of flexibly cross-link...
